What is massage?
Massage is a body-rub given to improve
circulation and relax muscles. It is the systemic
manipulation of the soft tissues in your body by such
movements as rubbing kneading, rolling, and tapping, for the
purpose of circulation of the blood, relaxation of muscles,
relief of pain, restoration of metabolic balance an other
benefits both physical and mental.
Massage can help improve your physical
performance, and lower your fatigue level in every sport or
form of exercise. By reducing fatigue, massage enables you
to train better with longer, more effective work-outs.
Massage therapists use touch as a way to
sooth and provide a comforting connection that is calming
and allows the powerful healing mechanisms of your body to
function. Massage therapy offers a safe way for you to
experience human touch and give your body and mind a
nurturing personal experience.
What can I
expect?
Your massage
will be given by a licensed massage therapist with many
hours of training. Before your massage, inform your therapist of any
medical or health conditions he or she should be aware of.
Most people
undress completely, for full body massage, though you may
choose to wear underwear. Your are warmly draped at all
times, except for the area being worked on.
Your massage
will take place on a table especially designed for stability
and comfort. the room will be warm and quite, often with
soft music to set a relaxing mood.
What
techniques* might be used?
Swedish*
- This is massage that most people are familiar with.
Swedish massage is generally done with the aid of oils and
incorporates long, slow strokes creating a very relaxing
experience.
Deep Tissue*
- This type of massage is directed toward the deeper
tissues. It help lengthen muscles, establish structural and
functional integrity, improved range-of-motion, and enhance
balance and grace. Deep tissue massage is often described as
"very intense". It is very beneficial for both physical and
psychological balance.
Trigger
Point* - Trigger points are highly irritable spots in
the muscle. Trigger points may be caused by injury or
overuse of the muscle. Locating and deactivating trigger
points reduces pain and improves function.
Acupressure*
- This ancient therapy is based on the same traditional
Oriental medical principles used in acupuncture. It
addresses many body/mind/soul complaints, such as fatigue,
stress, chronic body aches and pains, headaches, back
problems, anxiety and insomnia. This allows the body to
relax and mind to be clear and focused.
Reflexology*
- Based on the art and sciences of enhancing your own
healing forces by stimulation certain points in the hands
and feet that affect organs or functions in distant part of
your body.
Injury
Rehabilitation* - Rehabilitation massage focuses on the
restoration of tissue function following injury. It is also
invaluable for identifying trouble spots before they
progress into injury. This massage can be incorporated with
full body treatments to create a more holistic experience.
What do I do
after my massage?
When our massage
is finished, your therapist will leave the room while you
dress. be aware that massage can be very relaxing, and
affects all of your body's systems. Give yourself a moment
to reorient before slowly getting up from the table. Your
therapist may also recommend that you drink extra fluids for
the next several hours to help flush out any toxins or waste
from your body.
